What is my greatest achievement in Event Management and why?

I was recently asked :: What is my greatest achievement in Event Management and why?

The World Federation of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) 6th World Conference in 2004 was one of my great achievements as an Event Manager for the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association Ltd (AACMA).

The event comprised of numerous concurrent sessions with simultaneous translation in Chinese and was held at the newly opened Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The conference was the largest gathering of the Traditional Chinese Medicine profession in its history in this country, with 822 participants, including over 765 conference delegates, over 150 oral/workshop/poster presentations, and over 450 people at the Gala Dinner held at Dream World.

It was not only the first time in its 17 year history that a WFAS conference has been held in Australia, but also the first time the World Health Organization (WHO) has co-sponsored a conference on traditional medicine in Australia.

In the words of Prof Wang Xuetai, WFAS Honorary President: “It was the best WFAS, ever”.

WFAS was also noted in the Queensland Government’s Hansard report by then ALP member for Southport Mr Lawlor. “This organisation (AACMA) is to be congratulated for the amazing piece of organisation and effort that it put into arranging the conference on the Gold Coast”.

WFAS World Conferences are held every four years, AACMA has secured the WFAS 2013 Acupuncture World Conference for Sydney.
